Wampold (Counseling Psych) to Receive Inspiring Teacher Award

December 15, 2011

Prof. Bruce Wampold (Counseling Psych) has been chosen to receive a Elizabeth Hurlock Beckman Award.

Gail McKnight Beckman created the Beckman Award to benefit teachers who have inspired their students to make a difference in their communities. The award is given to current or former academic faculty members who have inspired their students to “create an organization which has demonstrably conferred a benefit on the community at large.” Alternatively, the academic faculty member must have inspired their students to “establish on a lasting basis a concept, procedure, or movement of comparable benefit to the community at large.”

Wampold's former student from the University of Utah, Scott Miller, nominated Wampold for the award. Miller founded the International Center for Clinical Excellence to improve the quality of mental health services worldwide.

The Beckman Award ceremony will be held on January 7 at the Carter Center in Atlanta.
