Help Desk moving to MERIT Library on July 1

June 13, 2013

The School of Education's MERIT Help Desk will be moving to a new home on July 1.

Currently located in room L107 of the Education Building, the Help Desk will move to the MERIT Library, which is housed on the third floor of the Teacher Education Building.

The Help Desk phone number (608-265-4773), email address ( and hours of service will remain the same.

During an internal review of MERIT service desk usage, relocation of the Help Desk to the MERIT library was identified as a way to improve service to the School of Education community. Substantially more walk-up IT help requests and classroom support calls start in the MERIT library than in the Education Building. This move will bring IT help to where it is most needed.

This relocation of the Help Desk is also one step toward creating a central MERIT Information Commons, a one-stop-shop for your IT, reference and media questions.

IT consultant Jason Erdmann will remain on-site in the Education Building for support every Tuesday and Thursday during business hours.  Erdmann will start bi-weekly check-ins with departments and units housed in the Education Building, and he is available by appointment.

The MERIT Help Desk hours of support remain 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday through Friday during the summer, and once again in the fall will be 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday.  During these business hours, the fully staffed Help Desk responds to phone calls and emails.

Walk-up help remains available in room L107 of the Education Building through Friday, June 28, with the move to the MERIT Library starting Monday, July 1.
