Videos of presentations by dean finalists now available

May 21, 2015

The two finalists to become the next dean of UW-Madison’s School of Education delivered public presentations earlier this week, and videos of both talks now are available via the search website.

The finalists are:

Farrar Edwards and HessDorothy Farrar Edwards, professor and chair in the Department of Kinesiology at UW-Madison.

Diana Hess, senior vice president, Spencer Foundation, Chicago. Hess is also a professor in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction at UW-Madison.

Both candidates gave their public presentations in the Education Building's Wisconsin Idea Room. Farrar Edwards presented on Monday, May 18, and Hess on Wednesday, May 20.

In addition to the videos, the candidates’ CVs also are available on the search website, as is a form to submit feedback about the candidates. The feedback form is scheduled to close at 5 p.m. on Monday, May 25.

The School of Education dean search and screen committee named its two finalists earlier this month, presenting its recommendations to UW-Madison Provost Sarah Mangelsdorf and Chancellor Rebecca Blank on May 8. The 17-member committee selected the two after a four-month process.

The new dean will replace Julie Underwood, who will return to the faculty Aug. 15 after a decade of serving as dean.

The School of Education was listed as the No. 1 public school of education in the most recent U.S. News and World Report rankings, and fifth overall. Eight of the school’s graduate programs were ranked in the top three.
