U.S. News & World Report published its annual graduate school rankings on March 10, and UW-Madison’s School of Education is rated No. 1 among public institutions for the second consecutive year. In all, 10 specialty programs housed within the School of Education were highlighted this year by U.S. News as being among the elite programs in the nation. In particular, UW-Madison ranked No. 1 among all schools in the categories of Curriculum/Instruction, Educational Psychology and Rehabilitation Counseling.
Dustin Brockberg, a first-year doctoral student with UW-Madison’s Department of Counseling Psychology, is the newly appointed State Advocacy Coordinator (SAC) for Wisconsin. In this role, Brockberg’s primary duties include working with campus representatives from universities across the state of Wisconsin to ensure that information from the American Psychological Association of Graduate Students (APAGS) is being disseminated to the larger student body.
The search for the next dean of the University of Wisconsin-Madison’s School of Education is officially underway. In November, Dean Julie Underwood announced that she would step aside from her post in August 2015 to return to the faculty.
The second edition of Bruce Wampold’s, “The Great Psychotherapy Debate: The Evidence for What Makes Psychotherapy Work,” has been updated and revised to expand the presentation of the Contextual Model, which is derived from a scientific understanding of how humans heal in a social context and explains findings from a vast array of psychotherapies studies.
UW-Madison alumna Dr. Rocio Martinez will be coordinating the new Rising Stars mentoring program for Latinos United for College Education Scholarships (LUCES). Martinez received her Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from UW-Madison in 1997 and earned a master’s in Counseling and Guidance in 1983.
UW-Madison's School of Education celebrated with its newest cohort of graduates by hosting its annual pre-commencement celebration Sunday morning at the Gordon Dining and Event Center. Before taking that big step across the Kohl Center stage, students enjoyed breakfast, heard from School of Education Dean Julie Underwood, and mingled with faculty and staff, family and friends. In an effort to help faculty and students implement innovative projects designed to bolster teaching and learning, UW-Madison’s School of Education recently awarded a dozen Replicable Instructional Technology Infusion (RITI) grants. “The ways in which people thought about infusing technology were really interesting, often innovative and sometimes crossed departmental boundaries,” says Dan Jacobsohn, the chief information officer for the School of Education and the person who launched the RITI grant program this fall.
A trio of graduate students with UW-Madison’s Department of Counseling Psychology -- Marla Delgado-Guerrero, Nancy Herrera and Laura Minero -- delivered presentations at the National Latina/o Psychological Association’s biennial conference earlier this fall in Albuquerque, N.M.
The University of Wisconsin-Madison has received a landmark gift of $100 million from John and Tashia Morgridge, representing the largest single contribution from individual donors in the history of the institution. A 1955 graduate of the School of Education, Tashia Frankfurth Morgridge has maintained close ties with the school, serving on its board of visitors and, with her husband, sponsoring scholarships to support students preparing to become teachers. A retired special education teacher, she has been a volunteer teacher for students with learning disabilities.
After nearly a decade leading UW-Madison’s School of Education, Dean Julie Underwood announced today that she is stepping aside from her post in August 2015 to return to the faculty. “It has been an honor and a privilege to serve as dean of the School of Education for 10 years,” says Underwood. “I intend to remain active in UW life and continue working as a member of the faculty.” She has been dean since August 2005, with a short break in those duties from January to July 2009, when she served as UW-Madison’s interim provost.
