The 90-minute forum, which is free and open to the public, will be held Thursday, Sept., 5, at the Middleton Performing Arts Center, 2100 Bristol St., and begins at 7 p.m. In addition to Underwood, other confirmed participants include Wisconsin State Senators Kathleen Vinehout, D-Alma, and Dale Schultz, R-Richland Center.

Mathieu appointed interim director of Wisconsin Center for Education Research
Robert Mathieu has been appointed interim director of the Wisconsin Center for Education Research (WCER), UW-Madison School of Education Dean Julie Underwood announced Tuesday. He replaces Adam Gamoran, who stepped down after nine years to accept a position as President of the William T. Grant Foundation. Currently, Mathieu is a Vilas Distinguished Achievement Professor in the Department of Astronomy at UW-Madison.

Doctoral student Yulish implores us to think seriously about ADHD
Noah Yulish, a UW-Madison doctoral student who is studying counseling psychology, earlier this summer published an interesting blog for the Huffington Post that provides contextualized and thoughtful perspectives about ADHD. The post explains how Yulish attended a panel discussion this past spring at UW-Madison that featured the Dalai Lama and was titled, "Change Your Mind, Change the World."

SERP, which is sponsored by the School of Education and the university’s Graduate School, is an eight–week program that provides underrepresented undergraduate students who are interested in pursuing graduate studies in academic fields within the School of Education an opportunity to engage in independent research guided by a faculty mentor.

Students reflect on ‘transformative’ service-learning trip to Guatemala
In three of the past five years, UW-Madison Professor Steve Quintana has led groups of graduate students to Guatemala to provide a cultural and professional immersion into psychological services and research in Latin America. Most recently, in May, Quintana returned with a multidisciplinary team of graduate students from the School of Education.

Valdez to receive Outstanding Women of Color Award
The School of Education’s Carmen Valdez has been selected to receive a 2013 UW-Madison Outstanding Women of Color (OWoCA) Award for her achievements and contributions to campus and the community. The annual reception honoring these women is scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 25 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Lowell Center.

Help Desk moving to MERIT Library on July 1
Currently located in room L107 of the Education Building, the Help Desk will move to the MERIT Library, which is housed on the third floor of the Teacher Education Building.
