The free public talk on Friday, Nov. 22, is titled, “Mexican ‘Retornados’ and Families in Mexico: The Impact of the Migration Experience.” The event runs from 4 to 5:30 p.m. in room 206 of Ingraham Hall. Pérez Padilla earned her master’s degree from the Department of Counseling Psychology in 2003.

Valdez, an associate professor with the School of Education’s Department of Counseling Psychology, is a member of the American Psychological Association’s Committee on Children, Youth and Families. Her work is focused on improving the psychological well-being of Latino families.

Padilla is a graduate student with the School of Education’s Department of Counseling Psychology. The APA Dissertation Research Awards are made annually by the APA Science Directorate to promising graduate students to assist with the costs of their dissertation research.

Dean Underwood will be spending Oct. 24 through Nov. 3 in China, where she will be joined by David Rosenthal, the School of Education’s Associate Dean for curriculum and international affairs. The two will be traveling both as a team and individually, making stops at five institutions in an effort to enhance current partnerships and agreements, while starting conversations about new opportunities.

UW-Madison’s School of Education hosted about 250 of its alumni and friends on Saturday, Oct. 12, at its annual Homecoming Tailgate Celebration at Union South. People connected with old friends, checked out the new digs inside Union South and partied with the UW Marching Band prior to heading over to Camp Randall Stadium for an afternoon of fall football fun as the Badgers took on Northwestern.

The Patricia L. Wolleat Professor of Counseling Psychology in the School of Education, and a clinical professor of psychiatry at the university, Wampold was being recognized for his research, which has led to improvement in the quality of mental health services around the world.

There are two sources of funding. One is via School of Education Seed Funding, which supports initiatives and innovations that contribute to the globalization of the School's course and program offerings, and of the UW-Madison campus. In addition, the Wisconsin Center for Educational Research (WCER) is providing seed funding for the 2013-2014 academic year to promote international and/or comparative educational research by School of Education faculty and staff.
